Mariupol, 19-21 September 2006

CONFERENCE RESULTS

The Mariupol Conference has been hailed as the most significant environmental event in Ukraine since Kiev-2003. Among its many achievements were:

Reciprocal affirmation by Government, Industry and Civil Society to work together both contructively and in partnership to improve Ukraine's environment

Endorsing the principles of Open Dialogue

  Affirming Ukraine's Millennium Development Goals

  Re-affirming the Aarhus Principles

Acknowledging Environmental Rights and the health consequences of pollution

Commiting to the refinement of National Environmental Priorities

Drawing up national environmental reports and Action Plans

Pledging Government support to Non-governmental Organizations

The Conference Resolution, which is reproduced here in both Ukrainian and English will now serve as a blueprint and as an endorsement for direct and concrete actions for all sectors to prioritise and tackle the most pressing environment and sustainability problems.
