The Mariupol Conference has been hailed as the most significant environmental event in Ukraine since Kiev-2003. Among its many achievements were:

Reciprocal affirmation by Government, Industry and Civil Society to work together both contructively and in partnership to improve Ukraine's environment:

  • Endorsing the principles of Open Dialogue
  • Affirming Ukraine's Millennium Development Goals
  • Re-affirming the Aarhus Principles
  • Acknowledging Environmental Rights and the health consequences of pollution
  • Commiting to the refinement of National Environmental Priorities
  • Drawing up national environmental reports and Action Plans
  • Pledging Government support to Non-governmental Organizations

The Conference Resolution, which is reproduced here in both Ukrainian and English will now serve as a blueprint and as an endorsement for direct and concrete actions for all sectors to prioritise and tackle the most pressing environment and sustainability problems.

NEXT STEPS

Think global, act local!

Use this website to post your ideas for setting up «delivery groups» in your communities along Agenda 21 lines, also endorsed in the Conference Resolution. Improvement can only begin at the Municipal level.

Start bottom-up, NOT top down!

Make sure that the environmental actions of all official agencies at national, municipal and local self government levels are steered by and informed of your determination to share a clean and healthy environment.
